An Ode to Nora Ephron & the Greatest Hair Makeover

Like most people, I was extremely saddened to hear that Nora Ephron, the woman who brought us romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally and You've Got Mail, passed away yesterday. While it was a lesser known hit of hers, Hanging Up was my go-to film during my middle school years, so I'm a big Nora fan.

I wanted to find the right way to comment on her achievements without doing a run-through of her filmography, since we aren't an entertainment site (though I hope we are entertaining). Then I realized that Nora left a big footprint in the beauty world through her continued use of leading lady Meg Ryan. Who better represents the power of a haircut?

I don't know about you, but my mom adored Meg Ryan. Every time the actress showed off a new cut, my mom loved her more. On more than one occasion, a photo of Meg went along with my mom to the hairstylist to serve as hairspiration.

Many stars shared their memories of Nora today, including Ryan, who said, "Nora was an era. We pictured ourselves inside her dreams and they became ours. All wisdom, wit and sparkle lights, what a treat she was, what a blessing. I marvel again and again, what a life... To have created a simple happiness in people, to have added to the sum of delight in the world."

While Nora may have not actually been the one snipping away at Meg's famous locks, she is the one responsible for having put her in the spotlight, for having written and directed movies worth people's time and money, and for having made Meg America's sweetheart.
