More evidence I'm raising up a nerd padawan-
How can I ask you to post your most wackadoodle Halloween photos if I'm not willing to invite you into my own Star Wars family nerd domaine? As you can see by my parents' costumes, the pull to the costume dark side goes back several generations. less

We all have thousands of photos of our little ones zipped into their first giraffe costume, of ninjas at the ready with foam nunchucks and little princesses swathed in glittery tulle.

So why is it that we treasure most those snapshots of the newborn screaming like a kitty-cat onesie is the worst thing to happen to him since he emerged from the womb? Or can't stop giggling at pic of Grandma wearing a pirate's beard? And put all the others aside to frame a photo of the family ferret looking particularly sad to be all dolled up in Barbie clothes?

While Halloween certainly comes with many wonderful treats, it's those fall-apart, kooky, funny moments that really make it a great holiday. In honor of all that goes wrong with those $50 costumes and despite the kid carrying a huge bag of sugar, we're highlighting the very best Halloween photos.

They can be funny, silly, even kind of pathetic. They can be of kids, parents, pets, or even the pics of you that your one-day children will be horrified to find.

Just share your very favorite Halloween photos with us on Facebook and we will showcase the best of them for all of our friends and followers. And because we like to play fair, the Shine editors have kicked off the Halloween photo extravaganza with some of our own favorite dress-up shots.

You can share your photos and vote for your favorites. Here's how you can participate:

  • Want to share a photo? Upload one directly to our page (easy, peasy).

  • Want to vote for your favorite? Simply LIKE or comment on the ones you see there.

  • Then wrangle all your friends into LIKING the photos they like best on the Shine Facebook page.

Much simpler than convincing your toddler to be a clown (again) or trying not to eat every baby Snickers bar before a single trick-or-treater arrives, right?
