Taking care of yourself this holiday season

We've all been there - blisters on our heels from too many laps around the mall and burnt hands from overfilling the oven. It usually happens this time of year when we exert all our energy on family and friends to ensure a happy holiday.

While giving of yourself isn't a bad thing by any means, it shouldn't come at your physical and emotional expense.

Be sure to fit in some "me" time this holiday season, not only to save your sanity, but to indulge a little bit! Here are 3 ways to take a step back from the holidays and focus on you:

1. SHOP ONLINE

While shopping outside of holiday gifts may seem like the last thing you want to do this time of year, it has the potential to be the most cathartic. Browsing inspirational sale sites, like Joss & Main is a great way to spark your imagination through curated home fashion collections. No one knows your home like you do, so this is an area safe to shop for during the holidays. Grab a bold, patterned pillow set to ring in the New Year with a new style.

2. GET A BLOW OUT

Rushing around during the holidays can leave you feeling and looking less than fabulous. When you're in need of some sprucing up, get your hair done! It's a surefire way to feel great and save time in the long run. With a good, clean wash and style by a professional, your hair will look great for more than one day. With the growing trend of blow dry-specific salons in major U.S. cities, you can save more money than you would on a haircut and still feel like a million bucks.

3. RELAX AND REFLECT

This may be one of my favorite "me moments." When I find some alone time, there's nothing I love more than wrapping up in a cozy blanket with a cup of coffee. It's hard to detach from my electronics, but I like to take this time to use my tablet for some self-good! I use the Woven app to remind myself what the holidays are all about by reliving memories of years' past through photos. The app works without wi-fi, so I can connect without typical tablet distractions.

It is the season of giving - but don't forget to give yourself a break from the hustle and bustle. By taking some time for yourself, you'll feel more refreshed and ready the next time you need to run to the mall or host a dinner party.
