4 Natural Ways to Detox, Post-Holiday

by Lexi Petronis, Glamour

After the holidays, I feel so... sloggy. I mean, my body feels slow and slothlike, and my brain feels like it's wrapped in a sweater. And yeah, I admit it would be nice to have my pants go back to being not quite so snug. I could use a detox. How about you?

But a detox doesn't have to come in the form of, say, drinking nothing but juice. You can also try some of these natural methods to de-bloat and re-energize (be sure to check out these 15 weight-loss detox tips, too!).

Breathe. Experts say that a series of deep, controlled breaths help you bring in the proper oxygen you need in order to absorb vitamins and minerals more efficiently, while also giving your lymphatic system an energizing boost to rid itself of toxins.
To do it, try Andrew Weil's method: place the tip of your tongue just behind your front top teeth, and exhale. Then close your mouth and inhale through your nose for a count of 4. Hold your breath for a count of 7, then exhale through your mouth for a count of 8.

Dry brushing. It's good for getting rid dead cells and making your skin look fresh and radiant, but dry brushing also stimulates the circulation of your blood and gets the lymphatic system working harder to keep gross stuff, like bacteria, at bay.
To do it: use a natural bristled brush. Start at your feet and move up toward your thighs, making small, gentle circular motions with the brush. Do the same with your arms, always brushing toward your heart.

Stretching. The right moves (like these ones from yoga expert Sadie Nardini) can help squeeze yucky stuff from your organs and get the lymphatic system working at full speed).

Exercising. The cardio gets your lungs working, which fills your organs with good-for-you oxygen. The motion can also stimulate your kidneys and colon, which usher waste out of the body.
