5 Ways to (Naturally) Detoxify Your Body--No Fasting or Weird Juices Required

By Sarah Jio, Glamour magazine

Does the thought of detoxing appeal to you? I admit, I'm intrigued, and yet I just can't get into the harsh "cleanses" and fasts that so many programs employ (drink lemonade mixed with cayenne for a week? Not this gal!). That's why I loved this list of gentle detox methods...

I loved the tips that I found over at Gaiam from naturopathic doctors about how to gently cleanse your system (you know, when you've been going out with the girls a little too much and maybe resorting to junk food too many nights in a row!).

1. Think fiber: Eat plenty of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables to flush out the ickies, say experts. Best detoxifying high-fiber foods? Gaiam suggets beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed.

2. Get your C: Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins.

3. Drink more water: Purge the ickies and keep your cells hydrated and healthy by drinking at least 2 quarts of water daily, say experts (especially after you've hit an unhealthy patch).

4. Focus on deep breaths. Breathing deeply lets more oxygen circulate throughout your system. Think cleansing breaths.

5. Head to the sauna. Sweating it out in a sauna may help your body get rid of some toxins via perspiration. Steam rooms are awesome too (my favorite).

Feeling like you need a detox? Anyone ever done one and want to share about the experience?
