There is such a thing as too much exercise-and it can wreak havoc on your body. Do you know your limits? If you answer yes to any of these questions, consider yourself officially benched.

1. Friends have stopped inviting you to parties and happy hours because you'd never skip a workout to go. "If you start canceling social engagements, you need to reevaluate your gym-life balance," says fitness consultant Adam Bornstein.

2. Other gymgoers frequently ask if you work there.

3. If you're not at work, you're at the gym. "It's part of the busy trap-we have to have an excuse to be doing something," Bornstein says.

4. You snap when someone else is on "your" treadmill.

5. You feel the same level of guilt for skipping a Barry's Bootcamp class as you do for not attending a relative's funeral. "If you can't miss a workout without feeling extreme distress, worry, or self-loathing, it's a problem," says sports psychologist Sari Shepphird.

6. You can't remember what it feels like to not be in pain. "It's normal to feel sore after a workout, but when you overtrain, your legs will continually feel like dead weight," says health-club owner Rob Yontz.

7. You think rest days are for the weak-willed. "Most people aren't aware that you don't get stronger during your workout, you get stronger during recovery periods," Yontz says.
