I could watch Amy Poehler and Tina Fey read a diner menu and be completely entertained. I am more than thrilled to hear that the two actresses, comics, besties, and brilliant writers are teaming up to play sisters in The Nest. This is a project Tina has been developing for a while. Both Tina and Amy will be producers of the film. Jason Moore from Pitch Perfect will be directing what is sure to be a comedy-palooza.

Suzanne just wrote about the Bechdel test, and The Nest seems like it will pass that test perfectly. Which, hopefully, means it will be a huge success.

Deadline is reporting a broad stroke of the comedy plot: "They'll play thirty-something sisters who come home to find their parents' house has been put up for sale. They spend a last wild weekend together, bonding and feuding and finally growing up."

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey met in an improv class in Chicago in 1993 and have been encouraging and propelling each other ever since.

In a 2008 Vanity Fair special on women in comedy, Amy spoke about how frustrating it was that women were not getting breaks in comedic films like they used to. She says 20 or so years ago, "Lily Tomlin and Bette Midler could open a movie; Teri Garr and Diane Keaton were movie stars, and they looked like they lived in your building; you felt you could kind of know them." Now the landscape for female comics has changed within the industry. Amy says. "Female parts are underwritten as it is. You don't need to be that funny, so you might as well be good-looking."

Lorne Michaels says these talented actresses can play both ways. "Amy and Tina have transcended that. Neither is pinned down to that archetype - either one could play either role."

The chemistry between Amy and Tina is fantastic, and we've all seen it either on SNL, in Baby Mama, or from their outstanding co-hosting of the 71st Golden Globe Awards.

If I could get an advanced ticket to this film right now, I would.
