Are You Aware of How Much You Eat?

Ever noticed that portion sizes for food are about as inconsistent as clothing sizes? More than once, I've ordered a small latte and walked out of the coffee shop wildly over-caffeinated. Or I've dutifully ordered a child-size ice cream cone, only to walk away with something no child could reasonably be expected to consume. Of course I drank the whole latte and ate the whole cone-they were small, right?

So I wasn't shocked to learn that a recent study published in the Journal of Consumer Research showed that people are often fooled when it comes to food labels, and will eat more of something if they believe it's a small portion. And unsurprisingly, when people consume a large item that was labeled small, they feel less guilty.

What about you: Do you go on autopilot and finish your "small" sized treats (no matter how large they really are?) or are you more vigilant about portion size?
