Coffee-Shop Swaps That'll Save You Hundreds of Calories!

Skip the overpriced, over-caloried specialty drinks at coffee shops. DIY with these simple diet-friendly recipes, courtesy of Hungry Girl...


Mocha-Coco Swappuccino

Entire recipe (about 16 oz.): 120 calories, 4.5g fat, 24mg sodium, 21g carbs, 4g fiber, 8g sugars, 2.5g protein

The Starbucks version of this drink has more than three times the calories and fat grams. Eeks! So not worth it...

Ingredients:
2 tsp. shredded sweetened coconut, roughly chopped
2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp. fat-free non-dairy powdered creamer
1 tsp. instant coffee granules
1 tsp. mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 no-calorie sweetener packets, or more to taste
1/8 tsp. coconut extract
2 cups crushed ice or 10 to 16 ice cubes
2 tbsp. Fat Free Reddi-wip
1 tsp. light chocolate syrup

Directions:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook and stir chopped coconut until lightly browned, about 2 minutes.

In a tall glass, combine cocoa powder, creamer, coffee granules, chocolate chips, and sweetener. Add 1/2 cup very hot water, and stir until mostly dissolved.

Stir in coconut extract and transfer mixture to a blender. Add ice and blend at high speed until smooth.

Pour, top with Reddi-wip, and drizzle with chocolate syrup. Sprinkle with lightly browned coconut and enjoy!

Cara-mellow Coffee Freeze



Entire recipe (about 12 oz.): 158 calories, 2g fat, 289mg sodium, 34g carbs,

Whip out that blender, toss in a few ingredients, and voila! This caramel-icious freezy drink is yours to sip.

Ingredients:
1 tsp. instant coffee granules
2 no-calorie sweetener packets
1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. fat-free or light caramel dip
1/4 cup light vanilla soymilk
1 sugar-free caramel pudding snack with 60 calories or less
1 1/2 cups crushed ice or 8 to 12 ice cubes
2 tbsp. Fat Free Reddi-wip

Directions:
In a tall glass, combine coffee granules, sweetener, and 1 tbsp. caramel dip. Add 1/4 cup hot water and stir to dissolve.

Transfer mixture to a blender. Add soymilk, pudding, and ice, and blend at high speed until smooth.

Pour and top with Reddi-wip and remaining tsp. caramel dip. Mmmm...

Toffee Mocha Hotté

Entire recipe (about 12 oz.): 68 calories, 1.25g fat, 202mg sodium, 10g carbs, 2g fiber, 5.75g sugars, 5g protein

Yup, it's hot outside. So what?! You can still enjoy a warm beverage... This one's sweet, decadent, and guilt-free!

Ingredients:
1 packet hot cocoa mix with 20 - 25 calories
2 tsp. instant coffee granules
1 tsp. unsweetened cocoa powder, or more for optional topping
1/2 cup light vanilla soymilk, or more for optional frothed topping
1 tbsp. sugar-free calorie-free English toffee-flavored syrup (like the kind by Torani)
Optional topping: Cool Whip Free

Directions:
Place cocoa mix, coffee granules, and cocoa powder in a large microwave-safe mug or glass. Add 1 cup hot water and stir to dissolve ingredients.

Add soymilk and toffee syrup. Mix well.

Microwave for 30 - 45 seconds, until hot.

If you like, top with Cool Whip or frothed milk (see tip below) and a pinch of additional cocoa powder. Sip away!

MAKES 1 SERVING

HG Tip! Have a milk frother? Put soymilk in a separate microwave-safe mug and microwave for 45 seconds, or until hot. Froth the hot milk and use it to top off your beverage. Ta-da!
