Riccardo Tinelli Valentine's Day is this Friday, which inevitably means that waxing salons will be super crowded, so that slip in-and-out wax you had planned may not be in the cards.
So does that mean you are stuck feeling less-than-sexy on the hottest date night of the year? No way. You can totally wax your lady parts with a little patience, a little courage and a few simple instructions. It's actually not even that bad once you get the hang of it.
The day before you plan on doing the deed, prep your bikini area with a gentle body scrub (try Soap & Glory Flake Away Body Polish, which is packed with shea butter and sweet almond oil). Exfoliating will get rid of any dead skin cells, which you need to do for two reasons: 1) So the wax can get a better grip on hairs and 2) so there are fewer dead skin cells left to clog pores and cause nasty, super-unattractive ingrown hairs.

Not only does it apply just the right amount of wax on to the skin, it's pretty foolproof, too: You can rinse it off if you mess up or chicken out. (#NoJudgment, BTW.)
Once you have your kit and are ready to wax, make sure hair is no shorter than a quarter of an inch and no longer than half of an inch. If hair is too long, use a comb and grooming scissors to trim accordingly. Follow by sprinkling skin with a dusting of talcum powder. Wax will grab more hair and less skin that way, but just a little will do the trick, so don't get carried away.
Heat wax and when you're ready to apply, roll or spread the wax in the same direction that your hair grows. Work in one-inch sections starting from the top down. After wax is applied, press to piece of cloth over the area, running your hand in the direction of hair growth. This will make sure the cloth grabs the wax super well.

Count to thirty or so until the wax feels cool. Then, when you're ready to rip, take a deep breath, pull the skin just below the area taut and breathe out as you pull the strip against the direction of hair growth. Do it quickly, and don't overthink it, since psyching yourself out is the hardest part of all of this. Seriously, like Nike says, just do it, girl.
Repeat until all the hair you want to ditch is gone. If you still have a few stray strands, tweeze them out -- waxing the same area more than a few times will cause a ton of irritation. If you have leftover wax on your skin, use a little oil to rub it off.
When you're all done, hang for at least thirty minutes before applying lotion or slipping into your skinny jeans to ward off ingrowns. If you're especially irritated, you can also use a little hydrocortisone cream to calm any inflammation.
