Exactly How Much Sleep Should You Get?

Getting too much sleep might be holding you back at work. No, you didn't read that wrong. New research found that, despite what you've heard, sleeping too much can have a negative effect on brain function.

Scientists at the University of London discovered that about eight percent of people who consistently get more than the recommended amount of shut eye (six to eight hours) performed worse in a number of cognitive tests, according to an article in The Daily Mail.

And even scarier, regularly spending more than eight hours a day sleeping can age your brain up to seven years. Yikes.

We can't say we're totally shocked, though, since we've definitely noticed that logging a lot of Zs often leaves us feeling even more exhausted.

So what's the perfect number? Seven hours, say researchers. Subjects who slept that much received "the highest score for every cognitive measure", as explained in The Daily Mail. Can't swing that much time between the sheets? Aim for six hours, which scientists claim is the second best amount of time to spend asleep.
