Who is your biggest influence as an athlete? I admire Kelly Slater a lot. He inspires me because he is one of the greatest athletes of all time and continues to be at age 41! His style of surfing is so fluid and powerful, and his determination to win is unparalleled.

Do you have any rituals or mantras?
I usually say a prayer before I drop in for a run. Other than that, I take a hot shower, stretch, and listen to music.

What are you going to do if you win gold at Sochi? I would keep it at home in Indiana hanging around a stuffed animal in my room.

As athletes from 88 countries prepare to enter Sochi's Populous-designed Fisht Olympic Stadium this Friday night at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Games, those of us at home can prepare to root for Team USA by getting to know seven of its stars-including Nick Goepper, Jazmine Fenlator, and Gus Kenworthy, in addition to Ralph Lauren-favorite Evan Lysacek, despite the fact that his recent hip injury will prevent him from competing. After their Vogue.com photo shoot, we asked the Olympians about their own favorite athletes, style influences, and the rituals they'll rely on the day they vie for some of the 1,300 medals up for grabs this year at Sochi.
