Some celebrities are fashion pioneers. Gwyneth Paltrow takes on that role for diet trends. Here, a history of her food habits.

MACROBIOTIC, 1998-2002
Paltrow researches macrobiotic food for her father, Bruce, who was diagnosed with throat cancer; she gradually adopts the lifestyle herself. Bruce says the diet is like "biting into The New York Times."

JUNK FOOD, 2004

Craves grilled cheese and French fries while pregnant. She later says, "I couldn't look at brown rice" and "What I learned during my pregnancy is that there is a real lack of Mexican food in London, and the pizzas are too small."

FOODIE HEDONISM, 2008

Joins Mario Batali and Mark Bittman in filming PBS's food and travel program Spain...On the Road Again. She eats clams, chocolate, and sandwiches and jokes that she's going to "gain ten kilos on this trip."

PESCATARIAN, May 2008

Tells W magazine that she hasn't had meat in 15 years but eats fish and dairy and drinks coffee and wine. "I've got lots of lovely vices," she says.

MASTER CLEANSE, December 2008

Says the cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and maple syrup concoction was "not what you would characterize as pretty. Or easy. It did work, however."

ELIMINATION DIET, January 2009

She cuts out processed foods and shellfish, among other things. She shares an excerpt from Alejandro Junger's book, Clean, on Goop: "If your bowel movements get sluggish, you can accelerate things by drinking half a cup of castor oil or using a mild herbal laxative. Bowel elimination is paramount for correct detoxification."

Recommends Organic Avenue's five-day juice and raw-food cleanse on Goop, saying, for her, "The result was pretty amazing and the juices and smoothies (esp. the coconut milk and the cacao smoothie) were so delicious!"
