Happy 27th Birthday, Lena Dunham! 27 Reasons We Love Her

On Monday, "Voice of a generation" icon Lena Dunham turns 27! In honor of her big day, here are 27 reasons we're happy she's a famous person.

1) Because on Friday, she tweeted: “Rule: if you call me fat I block you. There just aren't enough days on this earth. Let us do on twitter what we couldn't do in high school!”

2) Because even though she’s wildly famous, she still acts like a dorky fan at fancy celebrity soirees.

3) Because she convinced Judd Apatow, king of lad mag comedy, to pay attention to women and invest in her HBO hit, “Girls.”

4) Because she’s not afraid to play ping-ping topless on television (as you do).

5) Because she's been nominated for four Emmy Awards and won two Golden Globes for “Girls.”

6) Because she’s a native New Yorker.

7) Because she didn’t have a fighting chance of being boring: Her mother is a photographer who arranges dolls and doll house furniture to create “disquieting domestic tableaux” and her father is a painter of “overtly sexualized pop art.”

8) Because she has a dramatic streak, telling The New Yorker in 2010 that she once kept a private diary but "I was, like, 'What's the point, if no one's reading it? I would leave it out on the counter, on purpose, for my parents."

9) Because in April, she was labeled an “Icon” on Time magazine’s list of “The Most Influential People in the World” among the likes of China’s First Lady Peng Liyun, former US Rep. Gabby Giffords, and Queen Bey.

10) Because she’s the anti-Carrie Bradshaw: Both "Sex and the City" actress Sarah Jessica Parker and Dunham paved the way for frank female conversations about sex but Dunham doesn’t need stilettos, man-candy and Cosmos to make her point.

11) Because when she and SJP collided on the red carpet at the MET Gala in May, they chatted and hugged, revealing their mutual respect for each other.

12) Because, she doesn’t give a crap what you think about her “bikini body,” her “post-baby body,” or her “revenge body,” thankyouverymuch. See this tweet for more information.

13) Because she "got" Nora Ephron in that bestie slash big sister sort of way.

14) Because she’s evolved enough to see the ugly side of beauty. When Playboy asked what she would do if she woke up one day in the body of a Victoria’s Secret model, she said, “I don’t think I’d like it very much. There would be all kinds of weird challenges to deal with that I don’t have to deal with now.”

15) Because she doesn’t engage in Twitter wars of the Donald Trump variety. When comic Lisa Lampanelli tweeted a photo of her and Dunham and used the N-word in the caption, Dunham tweeted, “That’s not a word I would EVER use. Its implications are beyond my comprehension. I was made supremely uncomfortable by it...Perhaps I should have addressed it, but the fact is I’ve learned that twitter debates breed more twitter debates…”

16) Because she’s not afraid to say what she thinks, at the risk of offending her Hollywood peers. While appearing on Alec Baldwin’s podcast in January she said of Rihanna and Chris Brown rekindling their romance, “And it cracks my heart in half in a way that makes me feel like I’m 95 years old.”

17) Because she's already taping Season 3 of "Girls" because the world has requested it.

18) Because she told E! Online, "I hope that my presence and that of my cast members has given people some sense that a range of body types is appropriate and even wonderful on TV.”

19) Because she inspired this hilarious impression of her “Zero Dark Thirty audition” by comic Chelsea Davison.

20) Because while giving a speech at Glamour magazine’s “Women of the Year” awards in November she did what every woman dreams of doing at stuffy corporate events and kicked off her heels, declaring, "I have to take my shoes off you guys, I'm so sorry."

21) Because she loves Cadbury Crème Eggs.

22) Because she knows that being a feminist and a girl aren’t mutually exclusive. “I’m the worst. I could hate somebody and then if I slept with them once, I’d be planning our wedding in my head,” she told Playboy.

23) Because she always carries a metal spoon her purse.

24) Because she’s the only celebrity who can talk about her paycheck and still sound humble. When discussing her 3.5 million dollar book deal in the February issue of Interview magazine, she said, “But I think what that was so stressful to me at first about the number being put out into the world was the sense that someone was going to think that I was going around town and being like, ‘Listen, you fools. I’m worth this much.’”

25) Because just like any normal girl, when she’s in love, she wants the world to know it, just not in that celebrity PDA way. She told Interview, "I know there’s some rule that you’re not supposed to talk about your boyfriend publicly just because it seems like all starlets under the age of 33 have decided not to do that, but if you’re in love with someone great, then I don’t understand why you wouldn’t tell everybody. You don’t have to post naked pictures of them on the internet or tweet pictures of your Christmas celebration, but I feel like, in a way, he’s my best advertisement, so I’m like, “Why would I not tell people who ask?”

26) Because after all her success, she’s still afraid of failure. Of her relationship with HBO she said, "My biggest nightmare is that I do something where they’d be like, “That’s why you don’t give shows to 25-year-old girls.”

27) Because she's still only 27, which is insanely young considering how much she's accomplished. She's already birthed a hit series, won a Golden Globe and inspired some of the best gifs on the Internet.
