How to Look Great— Even on Fat Days

Most of the time, you know you look smokin'. But even the most confident chicks can be sidelined by the occasional fat day. Charla Krupp, style expert and author of the new book, How to Never Look Fat Again, shares her secret weapons for days when you want to break up with your mirror. Want more? Find out how you can look amazing in just 48 hours.

Cosmo: A great pair of jeans is a staple every girl should have in her closet, but with so many options out there it's hard to figure out what to go for. What are the details women should consider when trying on denim?
Charla: A few denim rules that I think apply to every body: no huge logos on the back pockets, no super light washed denim, and keep the details (like rips and embellishment) to the bare minimum. Find jeans that flatter your figure. While I'm a big proponent of trying everything on before you buy, in general dark denim with a little bit of stretch and a medium rise are the most flattering color, fabric, and fit for any woman.

Cosmo: To look thin, you say it's not just about wearing the right clothes - even your hair can shave lbs. off your frame. Can you explain how to get "skinny" hair?
Charla: I always say if you can splurge on one beauty treatment, make it highlights or lowlights. The last thing you want is a single block of the same color covering your entire head. Whether you're a redhead, a brunette, or a blonde - if your hair is all one shade, it's going to weigh you down. Need some inspiration? Try on a new hairstyle with our virtual celeb makeover.

Cosmo: And what about accessories - what are some that can add to a skinny look?
Charla: Definitely bangles - and since enamel ones are a big trend for the summer, use them to your advantage. Layer a bunch when you're wearing a tank or sleeveless dress. The eye will be drawn to your wrist - rather than to the upper arm, which is an area a lot of women are self-conscious about. Plus: We have the fixes for those nasty habits are making you chunky.

Cosmo: The message of your book is to dress to look thin at all times - even on Sundays when all you feel like doing is throwing on sweats and a tee. What's a cute, comfy outfit to wear when you're just lounging around the house with your guy?
Charla: Yoga pants are great for this - they're super comfortable but still form fitting and sexy. Pair those with a long-sleeve cotton tee or a cashmere v-neck sweater. Not only is this a stylish alternative to a pair of sweats, but I promise you'll be much more inspired to spice up a lazy Sunday with your guy if you actually look and feel sexy.
