Is That Nice, Healthy Breakfast Making You Fat?

By Elizabeth Angell, Allure magazine

You've probably read it a thousand times (including right here): Eating a good breakfast is crucial to successful dieting. It kick starts your metabolism and helps you avoid the kind of drastic hunger that leads to bad food choices later. And while we're pretty sure a lot of nutritionists will stick by their commitment to breakfast, one new study does question whether eating a big meal early in the day helps you make healthier choices later.

Dr Volker Schusdziarra of the Else-Kröner-Fresenius Center of Nutritional Medicine in Munich, Germany surveyed over 300 people and found that "people ate the same at lunch and dinner, regardless of what they had for breakfast." Eating a big breakfast, in particular, actually meant that subjects consumed more calories over the course of the day because they did not eat smaller meals later.

When you eat breakfast, does it help you eat less-or smarter-later?
