I don't know about you guys, but I break out in sympathy sweat even when I see women in the appropriate garb at a summer Renaissance fair (yes, my nerdiness is showing: Let's just say I see this more often than most people see it). So Jessica Alba's confession to Net-a-Porter's The Edit magazine that she wore two corsets day and night for three months to try to get back to the weight she was at before she had her daughters Haven and Honor sounds, well... horrible.

"It was sweaty, but it was worth it." She admitted: "It was brutal; it's not for everyone."

FYI, Honor and Haven were born at the beginning and end of summer, respectively: Even worse. I'm imagining trying to sleep in 95 degree heat wearing that straight-jacket they wrap Hannibal Lecter in from Silence of the Lambs.

Regardless, let's go ahead and ask the inevitable question. Is this awful-sounding three-month torture sesson actually an effective post-partum weight loss technique? Dr. Jennifer Ashton, a senior health expert for ABC News, says yes indeedy: "The concept behind abdominal binders is very common after surgery and after the delivery of a baby to help support abdominal muscles, help with posture and reduce the feeling of bloating."

To be honest, it is kind of refreshing to hear a celebrity admit to resorting to weight-loss techniques like this, amidst many of Alba's peers, who often attribute their drastic weight fluctuations to: "just quinoa, exercising and lots of water" or whatever other BS answer they were told to provide. But still... shudder.
