The Latest OMG Grocery Store Find That's Incredibly Simple, Too

Talk about timing: After this morning's proposal from the FDA to ban foods with trans-fats, we found two OMG, too-good-to-be-true products in the dairy aisle. Now let me back up. Before I buy any product, I always check the nutrition facts panel and the ingredient list. And as I was looking for some margarine, I stumbled on two new butter-flavored spreads -- Country Crock Simply Delicious and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Deliciously Simple -- which are palm- and canola-oil based, instead of the typical vegetable oil plus a laundry list of ingredients that I can never pronounce. But things have changed, ladies.

As mentioned before, both are made from just canola and palm oils, as well as yogurt and salt plus added Vitamin A and beta carotene for color. And since they have no hydrogenated oils, they're trans-fat free and have a whopping 70 percent less saturated fat than butter. Oh, and because they're full of good-for-you oils, these spreads are excellent sources of heart-healthy ALA omega-3's.

A one-tablespoon serving -- more than enough to slather on a piece of toast -- has just 100 calories and two grams saturated fat. Try using these spreads to saute veggies, top a baked potato or melt and drizzle over popcorn. Yum and done.
