Quick Guide to Oscar Nominees

Here's Something To Feel Good About!

Although I haven't seen all of the nominated films for 2010, The Kings Speech is one I highly recommend. It's an amazing and true story of King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II. George ('Bertie') is forced by duty to assume the throne, after his older brother abdicates. The problem is that he is considered unfit to be king due to a childhood affliction: a dreaded stammer. Continually mortified, Bertie secretly engages Lionel Logue, an unorthodox speech therapist. Through unconventional techniques, they uncover the root of Bertie's childhood traumas and an unlikely friendship develops. With the support and encouragement of his teacher, Bertie is able to find his voice and boldly lead his country through war.

This film is an supreme example of a handprints story. Bertie's speech therapist proves to be a mentor and champion helping the king to become a hero.
