RIP Jack LaLanne (So Inspiring: He Exercised Right Up Until the End!)

By Sarah Jio, Glamour magazine

Last night, I heard the sad news that fitness guru Jack LaLanne had passed away--at the age of 96. And while the world mourns the loss of an exercise and healthy living icon, I can't help but continue to be inspired by the man who got me hooked on juicing and reminded all of us of the importance of fitness--at any age...

Jack LaLanne has been in the spotlight for the better part of his life as one of the world's foremost fitness gurus. Maybe you've seen him on TV, at 60, 70, 80, even in his 90's with those buff arms and a youthful vibe (really, I think the man had more energy at 90 than most of us at 20!). He even "invented" the first resistance band, which he called the "Glamour Stretcher."

And maybe you saw the (a little corny, at times) infomercials for his juicers? They hooked me. In fact, I'm the proud owner of a Jack LaLanne juice machine, and I use it just about every morning. I'm a huge fan of juicing (touted by natural-health guru Kris Carr, too) and I credit LaLanne for encouraging me (and millions of other Americans) to get in on this healthy practice.

He passed away yesterday from complications with a bout of pneumonia, at the age of 96 (and his agent says he worked out right until the end). We send his family, and his wife, our condolences.

Thank you for the healthy ideas, the great juice, and the fitness inspiration, Jack. Gals, dedicate your workout to him today!

P.S. 5 steps for getting your rear in gear and stop procrastinating exercise. And, work and work out! She made her own treadmill desk (love this inspiring idea!).
