Ten Tips for Soothing Sunburns

Spent too much time soaking in the sun? If you forgot to put on sun block you will get tanned and severe exposure can even lead to a horrible sun burn which may burn and itch and cause peeling of the skin. Too muchhttp://shine.yahoo.com/write sun is harmful for health. If you did indeed burn yourself while lounging in the sun, try these home sunburn recipes for relief.

  1. Pat yourself with cool compress: For immediate relief from sunburn, soak burnt area in cold water or with cool compress for fifteen minutes. This will help reduce the swelling and cools the skin off.

  2. Bath: Add oatmeal to your bath and soak in it.

  3. Green tea: Make a pot of green tea and allow it to cool. Soak a clean piece of cloth in the tea and use it as a compress on affected areas.

  4. Peppermint: Use peppermint tea or mix two drops of peppermint oil with a cup of lukewarm water. Chill the mixture and apply to burnt areas.

  5. Take out the veggies: Rub sliced cucumber or potatoes on sunburnt areas to reduce swelling and cool the burn.

  6. Vinegar: Vinegar can also provide relief from sunburn and inflammation. Dip paper towels in white vinegar and apply the soaked towels to affected area. Leave them on till vingera dries up. Repeat as needed.

  7. Add vinegar to the bath! If the sunburnt areas itch, mix two cups of vinegar in your bath and take a nice cool bath.

  8. Apply a homemade paste: Mix vinegar with baking soda to form a thick paste and apply to inflamed areas. Use before bedtime and leave the paste on overnight.

  9. Aloe Vera: Apply either aloe vera gel or a piece from the actual plant to cool burnt areas and heal it.

  10. Water: drink lots of water to hydrate your skin to help burn heal better.
