The Hairstyle That Survives Even the Toughest Workouts

Our newest hairstyle obsession can make it through your toughest sweat sessions -- without requiring a wash and re-do on the other side! Take a cue from ballerinas: The chic superhigh topknot is one of the best 'dos to wear during high-intensity workouts. Here's how to get the look and save yourself a little time in the locker room.

STEP 1: Brush up.

Using a flat brush, gather hair on the top of your head and secure it with an elastic. "The higher it is, the less likely it is to bounce or tug while exercising," says Marc Mena, a stylist for Warren Tricomi Salon in New York City.

STEP 2: Lock it down. Braid the tail. Then create a topknot by twisting the braid around the base of the pony. Fasten it into place with a few bobby pins.

STEP 3: Go light. Skip gel or hair spray preclass; the alcohol content in some products can sting your eyes. Afterward, let your hair down and blow-dry any sweaty strands. Scrunch a dab of leave-in conditioner, like Tigi Catwalk Sleek Mystique Fast Fixx Style Prep ($14.95, tigihaircare.com for salons), through ends to smooth flyaways.
