The Smart Way to Get More Sleep and More Energy

By Sarah Jio, Glamour magazine

My dears, are you having trouble sleeping? I have had sleep issues on and off in my life, but I've noticed a clear connection to sleep quality and a certain activity that researchers say may be one of the top ways to cure insomnia. Can you guess what it is?

Exercise!

Specifically, running and cycling. Recent research from Northwestern University tracked folks who had trouble sleeping--all said they did not exercise. Then, they put them on a 16-week aerobics training program--complete with biking, running and treadmill activity. After the program, most all reported significantly improved sleep quality.

Researchers, including experts from the National Sleep Foundation, still don't know why exercise boosts sleep (here's an idea--it tires you out!), but whatever the mechanism, they encourage insomniacs to try to pump up the cardio for better sleep.

I have absolutely seen a correlation between sleep and exercise (and energy too). How about you?
