Will high fructose corn syrup get a new name?
The makers of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) want to sweeten up its image with a new name: corn sugar. The Corn Refiners Association has already been promoting HFCS as a natural ingredient made from corn. Now, the group has petitioned the FDA to start calling it "corn sugar," saying the name change is the only way to clear up any confusion about the sweetener.

FDA approves new fat freezing weight loss treatment

Can you really lose weight by freezing fat? The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new treatment called Zeltiq - it uses a gel patch attached to a machine to freeze fat cells. This makes them self-destruct and get re-absorbed into the body over several months. Zeltiq was originally approved by the FDA to anesthetize and cool the skin before dermatology procedures, but doctors noticed it also worked well in fighting fat.

Should the diet pill Meridia be pulled off the market?

First, reports of heart problems from taking the weight loss drug, Meridia led Europe to ban the drug. Then came the warnings from the FDA. Now, an FDA panel is torn over whether to pull the drug off the market or keep it there with a strong warning label and restricted use.

All I have to say is diet pills scare me. It seems like they always end up not being worth the risk.
