Try These 4 Simple Yogic Meds Before You Pop Those Pills

By Laurel House

I know... life's tough. So much so that too many of us find it too easy to take a little white pill and wash our woes away. Ease off on the unnecessary mind-numbing meds and instead pop a dose of yoga. Caffeine, Valium, Aspirin, even Viagra now comes in the form of a breath. Follow the lead of yoga-mat toting celebrities who practice mind-easing yogic meds.

Yogic Caffeine

You woke up with a head full of fuzz (no thanks to a late night of mischief), swollen eyes, and the sudden realization that you have a very important meeting… You could down a cup of coffee or a pill called "pep" to jolt your senses awake, or decide to survive without the supplementary stimulants and instead take a dose of mind-awakening yogic caffeine.

-Get an immediate and lasting burst of energy

-Sit with the spine straight in a comfortable cross-legged position

-Roll your tongue into a V with the tip just outside the lips.

-Inhale deeply through the rolled tongue

-Exhale through the nose

-Repeat for 2-3 minutes

Yogic Valium

You're stressed. I mean-mind racing, anxiety-riddled stressed! Before you head to your MD for a chicken scratched prescription for Valium, try this naturally calming cure.

-Sit up straight in easy pose (legs crossed "Indian style").

-Make fists with your hands and hold them up, palms facing out, 6 inches away from

your eyes.

-Extend your thumbs and press the tips firmly together until they become white.

-Let the last joint of the thumb relax and bend down, pointing towards the floor.

-Stare at the white tips of your thumbs.

-Close your eyes and mentally see your thumb tips.

-Breathe deeply.

-On the inhale say to yourself, "Sat," (truth) and on the exhale say to yourself, " Nam "

(identity). Combined, Sat Nam means "truth is my identity."

-Repeat for 5 to 11 minutes

Yogic Aspirin

If you head feels like it's in a vice and you are willing to try anything to STOP THE THROB, do left nostril breathing to filter clean, cool oxygen through the pain.

-Sit in a relaxed position.

-Press your right index finger against your right nostril, plugging the airway.

-Breathe deeply and slowly through the left nostril for 3 minutes

-You will feel a cool, soothing breath flowing in and out of the nostril.

Yogic Viagra

30 percent of American women have low sexual desire. So what does that mean for you? Statistically, there is a good chance that your libido is lagging. Eagle pose directs blood to your pelvis, creating a warm and relaxed sensation, increasing desire and arousal.

-Stand up straight with your feet together and your arms by your sides

-Draw your left foot along your right leg, allowing your left knee to bend as it raises up

-Wrap your left foot around your right leg at around knee level. The back of your left thigh should be resting on the front of your right thigh.

-Lift your arms up with bent elbows so that your hands are at eye level.

-Cross your arms at your elbows, left over right, and face your hands towards one another.

-Keep your fingers pointed upwards and join the palms of your hands together.

-Repeat the posture on the opposite side, wrapping the right leg over the left and the right arm over the left arm.

-Breathe into the pose. Imagine your blood rushing down to your Netherlands.

-Jump into bed!
