Uh Oh! Did Lindsay Lohan Punch a Woman at a Nightclub?

Just when it looked like Lindsay Lohan was getting back on the right track, she's been accused of getting into a fight at a nightclub. But are the allegations true?

Oh, dear. Less than two weeks after Lindsay Lohan was taken off of formal probation, she's already under investigation for punching a woman at a Los Angeles nightclub. Either she still hasn't managed to iron herself out, or the world is really intent on continuing to kick her while she's down.

According to the NY Daily News, LiLo has been accused of attacking a woman last Thursday night at The Standard, a chi-chi club located in West Hollywood. Said Sgt. Ed Hummel of the West Hollywood Sheriffs Department, "The person claims she was punched in the back by Lohan." The incident is being investigated as a "suspicious circumstance," though whether that suspicion is in regards to Lindsay or her accuser remains to be seen. The accuser filed a police report on Saturday; as of yet, no arrests have been made.

So: What do you make of this, Bettys? Is LiLo slipping back into her bad girl ways already, or is this a case of a real-life Mean Girl trying to capitalize on the actress' troubled past? Either way, it kind of sucks, doesn't it? On the one hand, it would be supremely depressing to find that Lindsay is backsliding yet again, even though she looked like she was finally starting to sort her life out; but on the other hand, it's equally depressing to think that some random person is taking it upon herself to sabotage LiLo's recovery attempts.

Myself, I'm kind of hoping that it's option number two. Although it doesn't give me a heck of a lot of faith in humanity, it seems to me to be a little better than the alternative; I'd rather think that Lindsay is finally starting to put herself back together than that she's learned nothing from her adventures in the legal system. And indeed, if Lindsay's rep, Steve Honig, is to believed, option two may be what's going on here. Honig told TMZ on Sunday, "Lindsay was absolutely not involved in any sort of altercation whatsoever. This is clearly another case of someone looking for money and 15 minutes of fame." Furthermore, in a later report, TMZ revealed that Lindsay couldn't have fought anyone inside a nightclub on Thursday because she didn't even leave the house that night. Sources told the gossip site that LiLo spent the evening at home watching TV (for the curious, she's apparently catching up on Homeland). TMZ's sources went on to say that Lindsay is feeling "particularly frustrated" by the accusation-and perhaps rightfully so, because if the sources are telling the truth, even when Lindsay consciously tries to take herself out of the equation, trouble still seems to find her anyway.

I realize that LiLo doesn't have a whole lot of credibility at this point; but I might argue the same for the unnamed woman who is currently going after her, so it's anyone's guess who's actually telling the truth. What do you think, Bettys? Is Lindsay the victim here, or is the accuser?
