Does your mood depend a lot on how people treat you, what they say and how much praise you receive? When you don't get positive feedback, are you just crushed? If so, you aren't alone.

In this video, psychologist, relationship coach and YourTango Expert Dr. Amy Johnson explains that praise (or a lack thereof) shouldn't determine how you feel about yourself; usually, approval or criticism from others is truly a reflection of them and what they're feeling, rather than a measure of you at all.

"Someone can be a really positive person," says Dr. Johnson, "they can be having a great day and they might shower you with compliments but that's about them ... People give us what looks like approval or disapproval and it really is about them."
