Walking Is Great, But the #1 Reason Why You Should Also Fit in Vigorous Exercise

By Sarah Jio, Glamour magazine

I'm a big fan of walking and lighter-paced exercise (it counts too!), especially since I've been pregnant these past 9 months! But, if your exercise has gotten a little low-impact lately, time to amp things up. Here's why working in vigorous exercise as often as you can has some serious health (and hot body) payoffs.

Did you workout this morning? Was it a vigorous workout? If so, good girl. While light exercise is just fine, be sure you're getting your heart rate going and sweating it out at least two or three times per week, say experts.

Here's the thing, reminds the fit gals over at FitSugar, without that vigorous exercise, your bod isn't getting the important chance to whittle away the belly fat that tends to accumulate as we get older (and I'm not talking elderly here--it begins in your twenties). Other than the fact that blasting that belly fat will make you feel hot (nothing wrong with that), it's also good for your health. As you know, belly fat is more metabolically active fat--that's fancy science-speak for disease-causing fat (think, heart disease).

Inspired to hit the pavement for a vigorous run? I am!
