Weight Loss News: Why Turning Your Thermostat Up May Be Making You Pack on Pounds

The latest excuse for your growing waistline? That heater in your house or apartment, say researchers. The weird reason why a too-warm-house could be making you fat:

Do you like a warm house? I do! My husband and I are always arguing about the thermostat. I tend to want to turn it up, and he's always turning it down. But wait, maybe his way is ... healthier, and maybe may help with weight loss?

According to new research from British scientists, our too-warm houses and apartments may be contributing to the obesity epidemic. In short, by turning the heat up, we're robbing our bodies of the opportunity to make our own heat, and hence, burn calories.

"Increased time spent indoors, widespread access to central heating and air conditioning, and increased expectations of thermal comfort all contribute to restricting the range of temperatures we experience in daily life and reduce the time our bodies spend under mild thermal stress--meaning we burn less energy," lead researcher Dr. Fiona Johnson said in a statement.

So interesting, isn't it?

Tell me, do you like a warm-and-toasty abode, or do you keep your thermostat turned way down low?
