Our May cover girl, Gwyneth Paltrow, is an Academy Award winner, newly minted sitcom star (seen her on Glee? Hysterical!), a maybe-soon-to-be recording artist and, oh yeah, probably the coolest celebrity mom out there. But in this month's issue of SELF, we saw another side to Gwyneth-her role as a devoted daughter, especially to her beloved father, Bruce Paltrow.

Given her A-list status, it might be hard to believe, but Gwyneth is really down to earth. Here are some of our favorite moments she shared with us about her surprisingly real life:

She's done the working-at-a-restaurant thing. (Everyone has to start somewhere!) Gwyneth says her fascination with cooking started in earnest when she was 18, trying to get her acting career off the ground while hosting at a local fish restaurant.

She gets cravings like the rest of us. Gwyneth dishes that while she was pregnant she couldn't stay away from grilled-cheese sandwiches and ice cream. Now her weakness is barbecue potato chips. (Mine? Chocolate!)

Nobody's perfect…not even Gwyneth. Her number-one challenging body zone: her tush! But after following Tracy Anderson's workout plan, Gwyneth scored a great bum. Want to transform your body like she did? Head to Self.com for Tracy Anderson's custom-designed workout moves.

At the end of the day, Gwyneth says family is everything. As a mother of two myself, I think: What is more real and relatable than that?
