Why You Should Never, Ever Give Up

Even if you're not a sports fan, you might have heard that last week's Game 6 of the World Series was one of the greatest baseball games ever.

On two occasions, the Texas Rangers were just one strike away from the championship.

And on both occasions, the St. Louis Cardinals came through big time before winning on a dramatic gamewinning home run

If you've read my book, you might know my all-time low was being in attendance at another famous World Series game in 1988.

That's when LA Dodger Kirk Gibson also hit a dramatic, gamewinning home run, widely considered one of the greatest moments in sports history.

My dad and I left early and missed it.

I often share that Kirk Gibson moment in my Livin the Moment presentations with an extreme emphasis on not making the same mistake as I did. (Fun fact: that's why we named our puppy Gibson...as a constant reminder to be present and not miss the moments)

Last week, I received the following email from someone present at that now legendary World Series game in St. Louis.

"Heard you speak last week in Palm Springs. I was at the Rangers-Cardinals game 6 last night, and thought about your Kirk Gibson story as I watched people leaving to "beat the rush" in the 7th and 8th innings. I thought, hmm, they might just miss something….and they did! You are a wise man."

Oh Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

I shared with you the infamous scene (at the top) from the movie Dumb and Dumber because even if the chances are 1 in a million, there's so much character and dignity in the one who never, ever, ever gives up...on herself, on her team, on her relationship, on life.

As a wise one said, "Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts."

Whether down to your last strike or feeling like the odds are stacked against you to the extent that it seems hopeless and stupid, STAY WITH IT.
