A while ago, I read an article where a podiatrist was quoted as saying that the best and most ergonomic thing for feet is ... no shoes at all. The statement really surprised me. But, then I thought about all the shoes that give me blisters, and I kind of got it. With this in mind, a new company has come out with the strangest "glove-like" running "shoes" I've ever seen! Some are raving about them, but would you, could you, wear them?

Yes, let's state the obvious: Wear these shoes and there's a chance that you might sort of look like a hobbit. But here's the thing, don't they look comfortable?!

The company, Vibram FiveFingers, makes a whole line of "almost-barefoot" shoes for women and men. A recent article in the New York Daily News reports that these shoes "feel like a sock but support like a sneaker," and that they're "part of a growing movement of runners returning their feet to as close to a natural state as possible."

The company's Web site definitely makes some attractive claims: "Some customers told us they felt more connected to the earth and more in tune with their bodies. Others discovered an increased sense of balance and greater agility. And many reported health benefits like improved posture and less back pain."

Would you be into these shoes?
