What Not to Wear to Your Company Party

Keep on your boss' sartorial good side with these five tips.

'Tis the season for company holiday parties and, while they're always a good excuse to buy a new outfit, let's make sure you arrive on the right foot with some tips for what not to wear this year.

Anything that shows too much skin.
As much fun as company parties can be and as much as we want to dress up, never forget this is a work event. Dress accordingly. Feel free to get swanky, but remember, if it's too short or too low-cut for a day at the office, it's too revealing for your office shindig.

Uncomfortable shoes.
We love hot-looking heels as much as the next girl, but even if your office party will be featuring a sit-down dinner, you still need to walk around and mingle. Nothing says fashion victim like a woman hobbling on a pair of strappy sandals that are digging into her feet.

Inappropriate undergarments.
Visible bra straps and panty lines are a big faux pas anywhere you go, but they're especially bad at an office party. If your dress requires a strapless bra, get one. If you're not looking as smooth under your frock as you'd like, look into a pair of Spanx. It's a festive night and you should arrive looking your absolute best, and that starts with a good underthings foundation.

Don't pull a 180.
Your holiday party look should be you at your most put-together. If you're a wild child who dresses conservatively at the office, don't use your holiday party to showcase your tattoos and nose ring. Remember, you may be celebrating outside the office, but you're still basically at work.

Save the ornaments for the tree.
Metallics and sequins and crazy bold jewelry might be big trends right now, but you don't want to look like you belong hanging from the tree. Keeping things festive but understated is always best.

Remember, if you have to ask yourself, "Is this okay to wear," chances are you already know the answer.
