Save time and money by making your own delicious homemade taco seasoning and create a fantastic Tex-Mex meal anytime! In Texas, tacos are practically a food group. Not just any taco but the awesomely savory and spicy Tex-Mex tacos in particular. I keep a jar of seasoning in my arsenal of spices at all times for a quick dinner.

Homemade Taco Seasoning

Ingredients:
1/2 cup chili powder
1/4 cup cumin
1 tablespoon paprika
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cayenne powder

Notes: Makes 1 cup of seasoning - use 2 to 3 tablespoons (according to taste) per 1 pound ground meat.

Directions:
1. In a large bowl combine all ingredients and mix well. Pour into a jar with a tight fitting lid. Store at room temperature.

2. To use: Brown 1 pound of ground meat (beef, chicken, or turkey) over medium-high heat in a saute pan. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons (according to taste) of taco seasoning to the ground meat along with 1/4 cup of water. Reduce heat to simmer and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes until water has evaporated and meat is cooked through. Serve with tortillas or taco shells and taco toppings.
