What's the number one food you think of when you think of a kids' birthday party? Chances are your answer is pizza. While pizza is a popular choice among children, the same meal year after year can get old. Not to mention that ordering enough pizza for your children and all their friends, plus the family attending the party, can get expensive. If you want to try something new, why not consider party trays? Party trays are easy to throw together and can even be purchased pre-made in many grocery stores. If you're unsure what to serve, here are a few simple ideas to get you started.
Fruit or Vegetables With Dip
One of the easiest party trays you can prepare for a kids' birthday party is a tray of fruits or vegetables plus dip. All you need to do is wash and cut the produce, arrange it on the platter and put dip in the center of the tray. It's really that simple. You can buy these party trays already assembled, but you'll spend a lot more than if you made them yourself. A few ideas for vegetable dips include ranch dressing, bean dip, cheese sauce and salsa. If you want to prepare a fruit platter, try caramel dip, marshmallow cream, sweetened cream cheese, yogurt or chocolate sauce.
Buffalo Chicken Fingers
Kids love chicken fingers and these are a much cleaner alternative than serving your children buffalo wings. You do want to remember to keep the sauce for the chicken fingers very mild and to serve the chicken along side a large bowl of ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping. You can purchase chicken fingers already tossed in a buffalo sauce, but if you want to make your own, all you need to do is mix melted butter with hot sauce to create a buffalo sauce. Add a bit of hot sauce at a time to achieve the heat level you desire and then toss your cooked chicken fingers in the sauce before serving.
If the birthday party is for small children, you can easily make themed sandwiches by using cookie cutters to cut the meat, cheese and bread. You can use any shape, just remember to choose a sturdy cutter that is sharp enough to make it through the ingredients. You might also want to cut the ingredients separately and then build the sandwiches. If you're serving older kids, you need to be a bit more creative. For example, you might have Spiderman sandwiches with spiderwebs on top, which can easily be made by putting mayonnaise on the bread and using a stencil to sprinkle on paprika or parsley.
Of course, the ultimate party tray is a cupcake tray. Kids absolutely adore cupcakes and it's a great alternative to a large cake that needs to be cut. You can make your own cupcake tray by choosing a simple design and then using different frostings to top the cupcakes to recreate the design. Or, you can go to your local grocery store and purchase these trays pre-made. Either way, this is a big hit with kids and parents love the fact that there is very little clean up. There's no plates, knives or forks required. Kids just grab their cupcakes and go.
