Shine Without a Smudge: Tips for Summer Makeup

Eye Liner and Mascara: Staying Waterproof
Dealing with the summer heat can spell disaster for your beauty routine, but there are products that can withstand the humidity and last you throughout the day. Waterproof products tend to last the longest without melting off, so you want to invest in eyeliner and mascara that will last whether you go for a swim or lay out in the sun. My favorite pencil eye liner is Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide On Pencil. This is the best pencil eye liner on the market, and it lasts the longest without smudging. To ensure that the pencil you use stays within the area you're trying to line, tap a bit of a similarly colored eye shadow with an angler liner brush on top of your pencil. This simple step will set your liner and will keep it from smudging. Liquid liners tend to stay on best, especially waterproof formulas. A great option is MAKE UP FOR EVER's Aqua Liner.

Waterproof mascara is a must in the summer. The heat can make the mascara smudge and flake off. A good, long -wearing mascara is Covergirl's Lash Blast 24HR Mascara. It gives you added volume without clumping.

Keeping Makeup Set and Light
Makeup primer is a staple in my kit all year round, but I like to wear it especially in the summer. Using primer under foundation makes the latter last longer. MAKE UP FOR EVER makes one of the best face primers: the HD Microperfecting Primer. Also, don't forget to powder your face to set your liquid foundation and ensure it won't melt off in the sun. A good powder to use, also from MAKE UP FOR EVER, is their HD Powder. It's translucent, and it goes well with any skin tone.

Many women like wearing less makeup during the summer. An easy way to apply eye shadow without having to spend much time on it is by using it in cream form. There are two great waterproof cream eye shadows from Tarte (Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeshadow) and Bobbi Brown (Long-Wear Cream Shadow). They both last all day without creasing, and their waterproof formulas ensure that they won't budge. Blend some of the product onto your lids and you're done! Last but not least, all good makeup artists know that you always set makeup with a makeup setting spray. Luckily, Urban Decay has made some user friendly versions for the everyday woman. Both All Nighter Long Lasting Spray and De Slick Oil Control Setting Makeup Setting Spray add a fine mist of product which locks down your makeup and keeps it from fading.
