VIDEO: Beauty on a Budget

By Charleen Gonzalez for Shine Latina

There are many fabulous high end makeup brands out there, but for Latinas (and any chica for that matter!) on a budget quality doesn't have to be sacrificed for affordability. Here are some great dupes for high end products.

LIPS
Starting with the Clinque Chubby Stick ($16) which imparts a sheer wash of color on the lips; Revlon has a super affordable alternative that won't break the bank. Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain ($7.69) has more opaque color coverage and also works as a stain which lasts for hours. Next up is lip liner, MAC's Lip Pencil ($14) comes in a variety of colors and is revered around the world as the go-to lip liner. The price is not so fabulous, however, and I found NYX's lip liner ($4) to be a great alternative- just as pigmented and easy to use.

EYES
Eyeshadow primer is an absolute must before applying eyeshadow in order to increase the wear time of your colors. My favorite high end primer is Too Faced Shadow Insurance ($18), however, NYX HD primer ($7) works just as well for less than half the price. Now I love MAKE UP FOR EVER's HD Micro Finish Powder ($32), which works beautifully to set your makeup, however it's quite an investment not every Latina can make. Luckily ELF makes a powder that works just as well for a fraction of the price called ELF High Definition Powder ($6). Made with the same ingredients as MUFE, this translucent powder is the ultimate steal.

FACE
NARS seems to have a monopoly making the best blushes on the market but at $28 a pop it's quite an investment. ELF blush is great affordable alternative and comes in a variety of colors and finishes. High end eyeshadow palettes can be particularly expensive like Stilla's In the Moment palette ($39). However, Rimmel has come out with just as pigmented eyeshadows in their Glam Eyes HD Quads ($5.69) that really pack a punch of color.

Consider mixing in some affordable brands into your makeup kit and your wallet will thank you!
