VIDEO: Keys to a Flawless Face and Perfect Foundation

Learn how to give your skin a flawless finish using the right products and these basic techniques.

By Charleen Gonzalez for Shine Latina

Not everyone wakes up looking like a million bucks, but you can definitely look the part with the right makeup techniques. It's actually really simple to create an impeccable canvas for your face. All you need is moisturizer, primer, concealer, foundation and powder. From deep under-eye circles to hyper pigmentation, we literally have got you covered! Also, for Latinas that tend to get oily skin, I have a moisturizer that will take away that shine. Now, these steps are easy enough for everyday, but for those who don't tend to wear a lot of makeup, feel free to keep these techniques at hand for your next special occasion.

Step 1: Moisturizer

Even if you have oily skin, you need to moisturize your skin every day. In fact, if you don't moisturize, your glands will over-produce oil. I like using Shiseido's PURENESS Matifying Moisturizer Oil Free for exceptional hydration and shine control. Make sure to apply all the way down to your neck.

Step 2: Primer

Using a foundation primer will enhance the look and wear-time of your foundation. Primer acts as a barrier between your face and the foundation, helping the latter go on smoother and keeping your pores from getting clogged.Try MAKE UP FOR EVER's HD Microperfecting Primer which enhances the skin's texture. Make sure you apply it more towards the center of the face.

Secrets to applying foundation:

Step 3: Foundation
Choose a foundation that matches your skin type. If you have a more normal or dry skin type, try MAKE UP FOR EVER's HD Invisble Coverage foundation. Or if your skin is more on the oily to combination side, try my favorite, MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation. Both provide full coverage and even out your skin tone for a flawless, all-day wear. You can apply it with your fingers, but I find that using a synthetic type foundation brush makes for a more even application.

Step 4: Concealer
Concealer is only a necessary step if you have under-eye circles, dark spots or blemishes to conceal. For dark circles, choose a concealer that has a peach or salmon undertone in order to cancel out the purple; then, use a concealer that matches your skin tone on top. For hyper pigmentation, choose a concealer that is closest to your skin tone; then, layer the concealer until the spot is gone. When I have an acne spot, I usually take a green concealer to cancel out the redness, and then put my regular concealer on top. I like using MAKE UP FOEVER's 5 Camouflage Cream Palette because it has a variety of concealer tones that are easy to blend. I also love to use MAKE UP FOR EVER's Lift Concealer for a brightening effect around the eye.

Step 5: Powder

Powder is a necessary step for me, not only to reduce shine, but in order to set the makeup and keep it from moving. You don't need to apply powder all over your face, just mostly on the T-Zone area. I like using MAKE UP FOR EVER's HD Microfinish Powder because it doesn't leave you cakey like some other powders do, and it also softens the appearance of your skin.
