This week, I've been reading the hilarious new book MENu Dating by Tristan Coopersmith and Todd Johnson. The book tell you how to approach dating as a strong, independent woman (I love that!) and find the relationship you deserve.

My favorite part? Their 10 first date commandments...

MENu Dating says you should repeat these simple mantras before going on a date...

1) I will have a positive attitude. (They say that there's no such thing as a bad date!)
2) I will be present in the moment, devoid of expectations for what's next.
3) I will be myself. (Remember the quirky funny things you love about yourselves?)
4) I will be polite and respectful, no matter what.
5) I can end the date early if I am not having fun.
6) I will be sexy, but not slutty.
7) I can get tipsy, but not drunk.
8) I will offer to split the bill.
9) I will pay attention.
10) I will be lighthearted and stress-free.

MENu Dating is great and inspiring--it's refreshing to have a dating book that concentrates on what women should do for themselves as much as what they should do for men.

Do you follow those ten dating rules? Do you tell yourself anything else before a date? Do you give yourself a pep talk (or call a friend or your mom)? I'd love to hear your pre-date rituals!

P.S. Five tips for a great first date, three foolproof dating conversation topics, and three steps to getting the perfect first kiss.
