10 Qualities to Look for In a Good Wing Woman

Earlier this week, a good friend's younger sister (who describes herself as "fairly awkward") confessed that she was super excited about this weekend because a pal of hers offered to be her wing woman when they hit the bar on Saturday. But she was sort of curious about the duties that come along with this volunteer position.
What exactly does a wing woman do? Because I've been with the same dude since I was 21 (seriously!) I've acted as the wing woman dozens of times. Here are a few tricks of the trade I've picked up over the years:

1. A good wing woman encourages you to be yourself when you start talking to a guy you fancy. She'll also helpfully nudge the conversation along if she notices an awkward lull.
2. A good wing woman encourages you to give a fake name and number when some creep starts chatting you up. She'll also helpfully supply you with said fake name.
3. A good wing woman will point out when you have food stuck in your teeth or have spilled a drink on your pretty dress.
4. A good wing woman will point out your ex's new girlfriend so that you can avoid her and giggle when she comes out of the restroom with toilet paper trailing from her tacky shoes.
5. A good wing woman will let you know when she thinks a guy could be a catch and is worthy of your time.
6. A good wing woman will let you know when she thinks a guy is a total jerk and not worth a second of your time.

7. A good wing woman knows exactly what sort of drink to order you.
8. A good wing woman won't judge you for ordering something that comes with a cocktail umbrella.
9. A good wing woman loves you enough to embarrass herself by doing the Cupid Shuffle on the dance floor just to get you to laugh and loosen up.
10. A good wing woman loves you enough to tell you that you're too drunk to go home with that guy you just met.
