6 First Date Ideas That Don’t Involve Dinner and a Movie

By Rosemary Brennan,Glamour magazine

Going out to dinner and catching a movie is often the default itinerary for first dates. Heck, it's what my husband I and did on our first date! But if that's not your style or if you'd just like to switch things up, we've got a few fun suggestions for you.

If dinner and a movie sound pretty snooze worthy to you, consider these first date ideas:

*Get artsy by spending the afternoon at an art gallery or museum. The artwork will give you two plenty to talk about and afterwards, you could get cozy over a cup of coffee or tea from a nearby café. Bonus: sometimes art galleries offer free wine and cheese!

*Are you the outdoorsy type? Head to one of your favorite hiking trails with your date. Don't forget to pack lots of water and sunscreen!

*One of my favorite summertime activities is visiting the county fair. You and your date could check out the fun house, stroll the midway and gawk at gigantic (and award-winning) produce.

*Take advantage of the warm weather by meeting each other at the beach. You could walk along the boardwalk together, grab a hot dog from the snack stand or rent bikes or paddleboats.

*Many cities with historic districts offer walking architecture tours. It is a ton of fun to marvel over beautifully maintained buildings and all those antique features will give you two lots to talk about.

*If you're into music, invite your date to catch an intimate live show at a lounge or even an open mic night at a coffee shop. You'll be able to determine what sort of tunes he likes and you two can flirt during the breaks between sets.

Which of these date ideas is your favorite? If you're in a relationship, what did you and your boyfriend do on your first date? And what are some of your favorite first date activities?
