8 Things to Know About Disgraced Former Miss Teen USA Melissa King

TwitterFormer Miss Delaware Teen USA Melissa King, 18, stepped down from her post on Tuesday after a scandal over an alleged video of her appeared on an amateur porn site. King told The News Journal that the girl in the video is "absolutely not" her, though she did turn over her crown to runner-up Hailey Lawler who will represent her state in the Miss Teen USA pageant this summer. While the focus has been largely on the video in question, there's more to King's life than that.

She's a former foster kid: In a YouTube video that's been removed, King says she grew up in foster homes between the ages of 12 to 18 and alluded to struggling with depression, anxiety, and financial problems.

She's smart: Despite her hardships, she was an honor student throughout grade school and was recognized through the United States Achievement Academy in both 8th grade and her senior year for exceptional academic achievement.

She's a budding fashionista: After a childhood spent in Bethany Beach, Delaware, King enrolled in the College of Philadelphia in Pennsylvannia where she's currently a freshman studying for a Communications degree. One day she wants to work at a high-fashion magazine.

She (might) have a boyfriend: On King's official bio, she alludes to a “Guy” friend (Boyfriend) Dave Stout.

She's sporty: Melissa has been a gymnast since she was 9-years-old, competing locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, eventually coaching for the sport. In high school she was also a cheerleader.

She's altruistic: Volunteering since 8th grade, Melissa has donated her time to the American Heart Association, The Women's Sport Foundation, and to foster children.

She was forced to resign as Miss Teen USA: During a call-in interview to Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show, Miss Teen USA boss Donald Trump told the shock jock that King had been asked to resign "very quickly" because "it was nicer" than firing her.

She has lots of support: Most of her nearly 3,000 Twitter followers are rallying around her tweeting, "@Melissa_M_King dont let anyone put you down. You're still a great person, no one should judge you <3" , "Obviously people are shocked at it.. But putting her on blast is messed up. Just drop it", and "You people are so mean leave melissa alone." King recently tweeted “God wouldn't give you something that you couldn't handle ...”
