A Brazilian Blowout - Frizzy Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

On my way into Trader Jo's today I walked past a beauty supply store. All the makeup I own sits in a ratty cosmetic bag at the bottom of my purse, so no one was more surprised than I was when I halted at the window. A poster with the words "Brazilian Blowout" screamed out in big bold letters. A woman, with locks shiny enough to make Rapunzel jealous, smiled in ecstasy from her perch overlooking the strip mall parking lot. (I hope she wasn't looking at my car or she'd also be holding her nose and carrying a shop vac the size of Dora the Explorer's head.)

Given I write a sex column, you can imagine what my first reaction to the words "blow out" were. Upon further inspection, I read the description of this beauty product. It was a salon technique that guaranteed smoothe, flat hair for up to twelve weeks.

Audrey Slater, the fashion director for Redbook, just wrote a post about it. She swears by the results. "Yesterday morning, my hair was fried, frizzy, and hideously unmanageable. This morning? Nourished, silky-smooth and most importantly, entirely obedient. I am in hair heaven. The best part? I will continue to be in hair heaven for at least the next three months, because that's how long a Brazilian Blowout lasts."

I don't feel that satisfied after a good romp with Rex, let alone my hair, but it did give me pause. Upon researching it, I found it costs between $250 and $600 depending on the salon. It's obviously pricey, and not something I would splurge on now, but I have to admit, it would be lovely. My hair is always the last thing to get done. When I do take the time, I feel sassy and pretty. This translates into more flirtations with Rex... which ultimately leaves me with a pretty bad case of bed head. If I had the Brazilian Blowout, though, maybe I could kiss my frizzy post-sex hair goodbye.

I think, instead, I'll kiss this post good bye. It's the last day of the kids' Spring Break and, like my hair, I'm a bit frazzled. But after a good night sleep, and a much needed hair wash, I'll be back to my normal posting tomorrow. Perhaps I'll even get some much needed nookie time in with my hubby. But he'll have to enjoy me in a pony tail. I'm thinking for the $600 we're saving, he won't complain too much.
