A Reader’s Story: "Engagement Chicken Worked!!!"
We've all heard about engagement chicken (the lore is that when you make the recipe for your boyfriend, he'll pop the question soon afterward). Well, this reader tried it...and it worked!
The fateful chicken...
Here's Alyssa's story:
My boyfriend and I had been dating for seven years, and I was getting antsy. Although I wanted to relax, I figured making Engagement Chicken wouldn't hurt!
So, one night, I spent some time cleaning the bird, salting it, stuffing it with lemons and onions and letting its sumptuous smell fill the apartment. When my boyfriend returned home, he was delighted to find a beautifully browned chicken waiting for him on the table, with mashed potatoes and broccoli to boot. (Ha! Little did he know I was working on a little magic of my own!) We saved the wishbone (a family tradition), and a few days later, when it dried, we pulled it. I made a secret wish that I'd be engaged within a week!

The following weekend, we went hiking in our favorite state park, and we stopped to eat lunch under a majestic oak tree. A faint breeze was blowing, and as we playfully started slow dancing under the tree. Suddenly, he got down on one knee, kissed my hand, and asked if I would marry him. Of course I said yes! He put the stunning ring on my finger and then whisked me away for a romantic weekend.
I'm sure engagement chicken wasn't the only reason behind his proposal, but it couldn't have hurt!
