Disturbing New Information About Rape

New study results for rape.

Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) released shocking new findings about sexual violence in the U.S. In an exhaustive study of more than 16,000 people, nearly one in five women surveyed say they've been raped. And one in 10 women has been raped by their boyfriend or husband. That means chances are, someone you're close to-and possibly several people that you know-has been a victim.

The CDC survey also found that nearly half of all women experience sexual violence other than rape-groping, inappropriate touching, psychological aggression, etc.

And the real numbers could be even higher. According to another recent study conducted by the National Institute of Justice and the Bureau of Justice Statistics, many victims don't report rape because they don't want to believe that something so horrible could've happened to them, or they are afraid that no one would believe them if they reported it.

But if you or someone you know has been a victim of rape, it's important to contact the authorities. RAINN, the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization, has great information on exactly what to do in the event of a rape, and what you can expect during the investigation.
