Do or Don't: Joint Bank Accounts

The couple in happier days
The couple in happier days

For someone who claims to be sick of all the Jon and Kate Gosselindrama, I sure write about them a lot! I just can't help it though...they always have something crazy going on. Did you see the newest scandal? Jon allegedly withdrew $200,000 from his and Kate's joint bank account without her knowing, leaving only $1,000 in the account.

According to the story, Kate only learned about the withdrawal after she received overdraft notices. When she called the bank to ask about her joint account, they told her that Jon had removed $200,000. I'm surprised she doesn't check the account online more often especially because of her marital situation.

Drew and I have a joint account, and I don't check it as often as I should. I trust him with everything, especially our finances, but I get frustrated when he questions me about purchases because I never do that to him. He says he wants to follow up about random charges which he thinks could be fraudulent, but I joke with him that I know he just wants to make sure I'm not buying anything frivolous. As much as I trust him though, I know I should be checking our account more often. When I had my own account, I checked it obsessively, but now I'm lazier about it because I know he looks at it multiple times during the day.

If you and your guy have a joint bank account, how often do you check on it? Are you lazier about it since you know he checks it frequently? Have you ever questioned any of his purchases or withdrawals? And does he check up on you?

P.S. Do you and your man share a bank account? What do you go without when your bank account gets low? And who makes more money: you or your man?
