It seems like half of my women friends have the same big question: 'My man just isn't as affectionate as I'd like him to be... why is that?'

1) He's not sure how he feels about the relationship. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE, SO DON'T RUSH OUT AND START ACCUSING YOUR MAN OF NOT BEING INTO YOU BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HUG YOU THIS MORNING. But for lots of guys, they find it hard to talk about problems they might be having with our girlfriends, and it comes out physically.

2) He's worried about what other people think. Remember, men are pack animals, and we are often consummately worried about what the rest of the pack is going to think if we, you know, get all mushy and goo-goo-eyed in public. Or even in private! Stupid, I know.

3) He's one of those claustrophobic dudes. Here's a test. If he can't sleep while someone's touching him, he's claustrophobic and just needs a little more physical space than some.

4) He doesn't come from an affectionate family. This makes a difference. Before you feel like it's about you, take a look at how much he hugs his mother or father or sister or brother.

5) He has a rare skin disorder! Kidding. The last thing to consider if your man isn't as affectionate as you'd like is you. Are you putting pressure on him about it? That can make the whole thing fraught, and then he'll start over-thinking affection, and want to hold his ground, and then everyone's screwed.

What about you? Do you have this kind of hug-and-snuggle trouble? What do you do about it?
