It's practically a cliché that couples meet and begin to fall in love with each other at weddings, where love is in the air. But couples have been known to first lay eyes on each other at far less likely venues, including christenings, bar and bat mitzvahs, even wakes and funerals. Why is that? It's because these type of events usually are large or substantial gatherings that bring together family, extended family, and a whole host of family friends. Plus these events are high octane emotional fairgrounds, packed with both testosterone and estrogen.

Less recognized as ideal meeting places are other venues that attract groups of sometimes seemingly disparate people who have something unique in common. The shared connection could be an interest in going to meetings about hiking, becoming a better vegan, or saving the environment, or electing a candidate. You'd be surprised how many couples first connect at a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. And why not? You're both there for support, and conversation and confidences are shared.

A great place to meet a new man is through your pooch. Yes, many people meet and first connect at their neighborhood dog park! Sometimes it's the dogs who initiate the introductions because they've already made a new canine friend. What to talk about at first is easy. Begin with sharing some funny stories or brag about your pet.

Ever heard of the "meet cute"? It's a movie term to describe the scenario where two people come together through an unlikely or zany way. In a meet cute situation, one of the parties may actually trip and fall at the other's feet. Or they may be forced to do something together. They might even at first dislike each other. A meet cute can even occur in your own house. Imagine getting into a row or disagreement with your handsome, unmarried contractor.

The bottom line is you can find romance anywhere, as long as you're open to it. At the funeral, though, just avoid the guy in the casket!
