JFK and Jackie Got Married Sixty Years Ago Today

She wore a Battenberg lace gown made of ivory tissue silk and a a rosepoint lace veil draped from a tiara of lace and orange blossoms. He went simple and elegant: a Brooks Brothers tux.

John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Lee Bouvier were married on the morning of September 12, 1953, in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Newport, Rhode Island with all the regality of a modern royal wedding. Over 800 guests attended the ceremony, bringing together notable figures affiliated with both sides of the power couple. 60 years later, we're still enamored by the festivities, washed with the history that JFK and Jackie would make in the years to come.

Take a step back in time with snapshots from the lavish event. They're not too dissimilar from your wedding Instagrams. - Matt Patches for HowAboutWe
