Jilted fiance sues boyfriend for 'emotional distress'
Hell hath no fury like a woman who's paid for part of her wedding, then finds out her fiance has cheated on her. Just ask Lauren Serafin, E.S.Q. I think she'd tell you how pissed she is, then maybe send you an invoice for the billable hours.
Lauren and Robert Leighton (also a Chicago lawyer) were engaged to be married and had planned a 170-person wedding and honeymoon to Bora Bora. Then Rob went to Las Vegas for his bachelor party, and everything changed.

Lauren decided to not only get mad, but to get money, too.
Rob's little Vegas getaway didn't go as Lauren had hoped. Well, actually, Lauren didn't even know he was going so ... Rob's little Vegas getaway really surprised Lauren, but that wasn't the worst thing that happened.
Rob allegedly met a girl at a club, took her home to his hotel room, and had a one-night stand. He denied it, but Lauren found textual proof from SMS messages on his phone. Rob finally admitted to "making out" with the girl, then told Lauren that he didn't want to marry her. Ouch.
So Lauren decided to sue. Can't really sue him for dumping her, but Lauren's a smart lawyer. She's got "breach of contract" and "intentional infliction of emotional distress" down in the suit. She's suing him for $62,814 -- but how did she put a number on her broken heart?
Well her wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, invitations, and honeymoon didn't pay for themselves. (Sidebar: I thought bridesmaids pay for their own dresses? If not, I'm asking for some money back.) Lauren wants that $62K to recover the cost of her lost wedding, which was scheduled to happen only four weeks from the day she was dumped.

Amen, Lauren, amen. The lawsuit says that "the defendant had a fiduciary duty of implied fidelity to the plaintiff" and I totally agree. $62K is a lot to leave on the table, especially when you have your life to start over, so I say sue the b------ . I respect that she's not asking for anything absurd, or out of line, or even slightly egregious ... she just wants what's owed to her.
I guess it's "What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas Until Your Fiance Finds Physical Evidence That You Cheated on Her, the Wedding Gets Called Off, and Your Now Ex Sues You for $62,000." The title was a little long, so Vegas just went with "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."
